Athlete’s Foot, also known as tinea pedis, is a skin disease caused by a fungus that usually occurs between the toes. The fungus attacks the feet because shoes create a warm, dark, and humid environment that encourages fungus growth.
Warm, damp areas around swimming pools, showers, and locker rooms are also breeding grounds for fungi. Athlete’s Foot can spread to the soles of the feet and to the toenails as well as other parts of the body, which is why timely treatment is so important.

A wart is a benign skin lesion caused by the Human Papilloma Virus. The virus enters your body through tiny cuts or breaks in the skin. Warts can be found on non-pressure areas of the foot and ankle.
They also can appear on the weight bearing areas of your feet and are commonly referred to as plantar warts. Warts are often cosmetically unappealing and painful. They are easily mistaken for calluses so it it is important that they are evaluated by our podiatric physician.

A corn or callus is an area of hard thickened skin on the foot that develops when your skin tries to protect itself from high pressure or friction. Common areas for corns and callus are the ball of the foot and tips of toes.
There are soft calluses that can develop between toes secondary to pressure from bony prominences. If the underlying cause of pressure is not addressed the corn or callus will continue to develop even after debridement. It is important to seek professional advice before attempting to self-treat corns and calluses.
